The Kreinhop Family

Mrs. Sandra Kreinhop Sheffield shared the following information regarding the history of the Kreinhop family. August Kreinhop and his wife Doreatha were the first members of the Kreinhop family to settle in this area. They owned about 250 acres of land that is located very close to Kreinhop Elementary. A street south of FM 2920 is named Kreinhop Road. Their family home was sold to the Hildebrandt family and is known as the Kreinhop-Hildebrandt house. This house has been re-located to the Wunderlich Farm. The name Kreinhop on the Germany tax rolls is seen as early as 1521 A.D.The spelling of the name has changed over the years. Kreienhop/Kreyenhop/Kreinhop is the same family name. Kreien/Kreyen means crow and Hop is low German for farm. The meaning then is - crow's farm or farm of the crows Click here, to view pictures from the 2004 Dedication Ceremony
